Route1 Launches MobiENCRYPT - Smart Card Based Full Disk Encryption Technology

Tony Busseri, CEO told us, “MobiENCRYPT, a new and innovative technology solution from Route1, offers on-the-fly, remote and local full disk encryption access to government and enterprise organizations.  It exceeds the most stringent government and military privacy and security standards, leveraging identity card-based credentials to enable a mobile workforce while protecting organizations from data loss, security breaches, unauthorized system access, and privacy non-compliance, as well as the associated financial and operational risks.

MobiENCRYPT integrates with government-issued identity card technology to offer fast, remote, pre-boot multi-factor authentication, which enables employees to access their workspaces quickly without compromising on security.  MobiENCRYPT is more affordable and secure than other hardware or software-only solutions on the market, and allows for a mobile and flexible workforce while protecting assets against data-at-rest security breaches and losses.  Once encrypted, assets remain encrypted after both local and remote logins by authorized personnel – other solutions offer local access only.

We developed the technology based directly on the feedback of our U.S. federal government customers, including the Department of Defense, the Department of the Navy, and the Department of Homeland Security.  They collectively expressed a real need for a portable full disk encryption solution that enables users to access their secure workspaces without placing sensitive data at risk, and we offer MobiENCRYPT as the comprehensive solution.

MobiENCRYPT is simple to deploy and scales to fit any organization’s needs.  Its robust management tools allow administrators to identity non-encrypted assets and remotely revoke keys.  As a mobile access solution that securely connects organizational assets with employees, mobile workers and contractors, MobiENCRYPT securely allows for full access to encrypted digital workspaces from any device, enabling secure BYOD programs.  It offers a number of unique benefits, including turnkey setup and easy integration with existing infrastructure, as well as 24/7 access to Route1’s expert support team.”

Route1 Receives ATO for MobiKEY from the U.S. Department of the Interior

Route1 Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ROI) (the Company or Route1), a leading provider of secure access technologies for the mobile workspace to protect businesses and government agencies, today announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), after completing its accreditation process, issued an authority to operate (ATO) for the MobiKEY technology and the DEFIMNET platform that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) installed at a secure DOI hosting facility in March 2015.

"The MobiKEY technology is one of the core components in our bureau mobility and desktop virtualization strategy. After extensive piloting across all our regional offices we found that it delivers an exceptional level of functionality and flexibility across a wide gamut of use cases, while at the same time exceeding the strictest departmental and federal security requirements", said Ken Taylor, FWS' Assistant Director, IRTM and CIO. "As an added value, we found the MobiKEY technology out of the box enhanced our Citrix VDI solution - delivering portability and astounding performance. With the accreditation of the DEFIMNET completed, and a full ATO granted by the Department of Interior, we envision rapid adaptation of the solution across all the DOI bureaus. It will enable the department to strengthen its HSPD-12 compliance without incurring any capital outlays." For more details, please click here .

Q3 Operations Update

Tony Busseri, Route1's CEO, said, "Q3 was a very successful quarter for Route1. We achieved a record number of subscribers, subscriber based revenue and average revenue per subscriber. We are continuing to increase our customer and user count among government agencies. Our success with some of the most security conscious organizations in the world is the ultimate seal of approval for our MobiKEY technology and is serving to attract customers in the broader corporate marketplace who are recognizing the business necessity of secure mobile access on demand."

Brian Brunetti, Route1 President, said, "We are seeing greater recognition of the importance of fully securing authentication for all enterprise users, especially as it pertains to mobile devices. According to a recent study from Intel Security, internal corporate employees account for 43% of data loss, and the majority of these breach incidents are accidental, stemming from improper access protocols. Additionally, Trend Micro recently found that 41% of all breaches are the result of lost or stolen mobile devices. Failing to secure sensitive data in a mobile environment can lead to serious legal consequences for enterprises, as evidenced by a U.S. District Court's recent green light on a class action lawsuit brought against Coca-Cola as a result of lost company laptops resulting in a breach of sensitive employee information. These and countless other incidents are forcing business leaders to realize that data security is not only a technology issue, but also a boardroom issue of the highest importance.

Fasken Martineau Turns to MobiKEY to Deliver Secure Mobile Access

Route1 Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ROI) (the "Company" or "Route1"), a leading provider of secure access technologies for the mobile workspace that protects businesses and government agencies, and whose customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Commerce and the Government of Canada, today announced that it has entered into a services agreement with Fasken Martineau to provide 100 of their Canadian based legal professionals with the MobiKEY technology.

MobiKEY is a mobile access solution that uses comprehensive multi-factor authentication and identity management to securely connect an organization's assets with its employees, mobile workers, and contractors.

"An increasingly mobile work force presents massive risks to confidential or sensitive client and enterprise information. Mobile devices - tablets or laptops, whether enterprise-issued or employee-owned that are not utilizing the correct security technology are one of the biggest reasons for the countless data breaches we see today. If data is stored on a mobile device, it will most likely be compromised when that device is lost or stolen. Additionally, introduction of malware to an enterprise's network is also a strong possibility when mobile devices connect remotely as nodes, such as through a VPN or a browser," stated Brian Brunetti, President of Route1.

MobiKEY means freedom for Fasken Martineau's team members, when using the technology, to remotely connect to their firm's assets with zero change to their workspace environment. MobiKEY also means Fasken Martineau's legal professionals can enjoy robust secure mobile access without compromising the firm's integrity - protecting against malware, data spillage and network breaches.

Mr. Brunetti continued, "Route1 believes Fasken Martineau's decision to adopt the MobiKEY technology will enable the firm to distinguish itself from its peers. We know that Fasken Martineau's clients, like any other law firm's clients, hold their service provider accountable for zero data loss making the issue of data integrity and security not a technology one, rather a business leadership strategic imperative."

"Fasken Martineau is constantly evaluating new and different solutions to stay at the forefront of data protection for the benefit of our clients. We are pleased to have found a product that we believe provides the security necessary to do just that and look forward to working with Route1," said Marc Prémont, Chief Technology Officer, Fasken Martineau.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: Thank you for joining us today, Brian.  Before discussing Route1's secure access technologies for the mobile workspace in greater detail please tell us about your background and management team

Brian Brunetti:  I joined Route1 in 2010, shortly after Tony Busseri took over as CEO.  Tony and I have invested in, turned around, and grown a number of private and public companies together.  The decision to join Route1 was based on a personal belief that data security and identity management solutions were going to be required in increasing demand in the years to come.  I was also excited to be asked to lead a technology company at an early stage in its business life cycle - moving from technology commercialization into a profitable, dynamic enterprise that drives change in how secure access technologies for the mobile workspace are delivered, integrated and used by enterprise.

Our Chief Technology Officer Yamian Quintero is truly the "incredible mind" behind our technology offerings.  Yamian was one of our Company's first employees and has risen through the ranks from a security engineer to CTO.  Like many smaller technology companies, we rely on our CTO's industry knowledge to map out where we can own a market position, how we adapt our technology to grow market share, and to bring to market new technologies that leverage our core competencies.
We have a well rounded executive team that works well together.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: One will read on Route1.com that, “Employees, remote workers and contractors demand access to their workspace from anywhere, from any device. Unlocking these productivity gains can dramatically increase the organization’s exposure to security threats and the risk of network breaches. At the same time IT professionals are being asked to support mobility and BYOD initiatives on tightening budgets.” Please give us an overview of Route1 MobiKEY and MobiLINK solutions. Any new features of these solutions that you’d like to highlight?

Brian Brunetti: My pleasure. Our flagship technology is MobiKEY, a mobile access solution that uses comprehensive multi-factor authentication and identity management to securely connect an organization’s assets with its employees, mobile workers, and contractors. Secure mobile access to any asset on any network using any device.

MobiKEY means freedom for an organization's team members to remotely connect to enterprise assets with zero change to their workspace environment. Additionally, the use of MobiKEY means an organization can enjoy robust secure mobile access without compromising the enterprise’s integrity - no malware, no data spillage and no network breaches.

MobiLINK is similar but different.  MobiLINK is an authentication and secure access technology that enables users to securely access internal web-enabled applications and web resources from anywhere in the world. MobiLINK also utilizes the MobiNET, Route1's universal identity management and service delivery platform. The MobiNET platform provides identity assurance and individualized access to application, data and networks.

We recently released support for Android. Now MobiKEY subscribers can now use MobiKEY on a variety of Android devices.  We will be releasing MobiKEY 5.0 in late September 2015 which will add support for devices running Linux and will fully round out our operating system support.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com:  Can we drill down a bit further into Route1’s integration with Government-issued smart cards such as CAC, PIV, and FRAC?

Brian Brunetti: Sure. The MobiKEY Fusion device is a patented identity validation device that integrates with government issued identity cards such as CAC and PIV. This multi-factor authentication technology combines physical possession of the MobiKEY Fusion device and an identity card, with computer and network access, helping government and defense organizations meet the United States Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).

The MobiKEY Fusion device offers all of the same security features of the commercial variant of the MobiKEY, the MC2 device, while leveraging smartcards already issued to government personnel, aided by the additional factors of authentication to secure the access component, while the MobiNET or the DEFIMNET platform universally manages the identities of users and entitlement to digital resources. Users can only access systems remotely with a combination of their MobiKEY Fusion device, an identity or access card and secret PIN.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com:  What are your key target markets?

Brian Brunetti:  We work with enterprises that are some of the world's most data security and user access sensitive - the U.S. Department of Defense and certain civilian components of the U.S. governments, i.e. Customs and Border Protection. In our view, corporate America lags significantly behind what a number of federal agencies have architected and delivered for secure access for the mobile workspace.  We continue to be surprised with the number of enterprises that continue to address data security as a technology issue versus a strategic imperative.

We believe the material economic impact to a number of high profile enterprises who have suffered data breaches over the last couple of years - Target, Home Depot, JP Morgan, UPS, just to name a few - and the recent 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in favor of the FTC providing them with the authority to effectively fine or sue corporations for failing to properly secure customer information from data breaches, will start to influence corporate America's approach to data security.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com:  The daily cybersecurity headlines are quite scary: the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recently discovered that the personnel data of 22.1 million people, including not only federal employees and contractors but also their families and friends had been stolen.   The White House said in July 2015 that, “cybersecurity is one of the most important challenges we face as a Nation”.  Please share with us, Brian, your thoughts.

Brian Brunetti: We believe that working with the U.S. government has changed significantly as a result of the recently announced breaches at the OPM breaches.  They have created unprecedented action among U.S. civilian department technology and security leadership to, among other items: fully comply with two-factor authentication policy (HSPD-12) by mid August 2015, review prior decisions to have enterprise network's inbound ports open, turn off all systems that are without appropriate accreditation or authorities to operate, and take action to properly protect data-at-rest.  Route1 is working with civilian components of the U.S. government to help them improve and fully comply with policy and data security expectations as they pertain to mobility use cases

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com:  What is your perspective on the value proposition Route1 delivers and the key differentiators inherent in your solution?

Brian Brunetti: Route1 enables the mobile workspace without compromising on security. Its flagship technology MobiKEY uniquely combines secure mobile access, with high assurance identity validation and plug-and-play usability. Remote and mobile workers are able to securely and cost effectively access their workspace from any device (flexibility) without exposing the organization to the risk of data spillage or malware propagation.
Security

  • Hardware-based, multi-factor authentication; integrates with government-issued CAC and PIV cards.
  • Encrypted and mutually authenticated connection to any asset (TLS 1.1/AES 256).
  • Identity validation and assurance at the highest level.
  • No remote nodes added to enterprise network: no endpoint security management required.
  • No Data at Rest; no data spillage to mobile devices.
  • Operates completely clientless and driverless

Usability

  • Plug and play user experience; nothing to install on mobile asset.
  • Turnkey setup and easy integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Full workspace experience from any device.
  • Proven support for VDI; VMware and Citrix-ready.

Flexibility

  • Device and vendor agnostic. Use any device, anywhere.
  • Annual subscription fee includes maintenance and 24/7 support.
  • Try and buy, pay-as-you-go options.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com:  What is your U.S. government go-to-market model?

Brian Brunetti:  Route1 is directly engaged in the business development process with prospective end users of the MobiKEY technology.  From there we listen to the account on how they want to procure our MobiKEY technology, which has led to Route1 working with technology partners and system integrators who hold prime contracts with the U.S. government end customer.  A few specific examples, we sell to:

  • The Department of the Navy through the Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN) contract held by HP Enterprise Services;
  • The U.S. Air Force through the Network-Centric Solutions-2 (NETCENTS-2) contract;
  • The Department of Homeland Security through the DHS First Source II contract; and
  • Other Department of Defense components and agenciesthrough government wide acquisition contract (GWAC) vehicles including the NASA SEWP V contract.

I should also point out that having full Authority to Operate accreditations from multiple accounts with both the DOD and civilian side of the U.S. government helps shorten the traditional government approval and procurement timelines.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com:  What is the most impactful trend that you are seeing in the mobile access "arena"? How does it impact Route1?

Brian Brunetti:  We see organizations making a gradual transition from the traditional desktop to virtual desktops and cloud related services.  To position for this, about four years ago Route1 evolved its MobiKEY technology to perfectly integrate with the virtual desktop, whether it is dedicated for the user or part of a pool supporting telework, COOP or disaster recovery use cases.  Customers that have invested in VMware, Citrix or other virtualization technologies can now extend that functionality securely and seamlessly to the mobile user with MobiKEY.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: Thanks again for joining us today, Brian.

Brian Brunetti: Thanks
